How to Measure a Stump for a Faster Quote
You do not need perfect numbers. A rough diameter and a few useful photos are usually enough to get stump grinding pricing moving quickly.
What to Measure
Measure the stump across the widest part of the top surface. Think of it as the diameter from one edge to the opposite edge. If the stump is not a perfect circle, use the widest point and mention that it is irregular.
How to Do It Quickly
- Lay a tape measure across the top of the stump
- Measure the widest visible point from edge to edge
- Take one close photo showing the tape measure
- Take one wider photo showing the stump in the yard
What Else Helps
Include the number of stumps on the property, whether there is a fence or narrow gate, and whether you want basic grinding only or extra cleanup. That combination usually answers most quote questions immediately.
If the Stump Has Big Root Flare
Some stumps are much wider at the base than they look from straight above. If the root flare spreads out noticeably, send a side angle photo too. That helps avoid underestimating the job.
